@ Whitelee Windfarm

I am going to start off my dog walking location recommendations with my local dog walking spot Whitelee Windfarm!

Whitelee is the UK's largest onshore windfarm located just 20 minutes outside Glasgow City Centre on the Eaglesham Moor. With more than 130km of trails to explore and 215 wind turbines for your furry friends to sniff around, it makes for a fantastic day out for dogs and their humans.

There are many benefits that Whitelee has to offer dog walkers. With free parking and free entry this picturesque place can be enjoyed by everyone. The pathed routes allow for you to take in the fresh air and explore the rugged wilderness without getting your wellies and paws too muddy in the process. One of the most important factors that the windfarm has to offer dog walkers is the many bins that are dotted around so owners can easily clean up and dispose of doggy bags.

One of my favourite routes to take at the windfarm is the daily mile. To complete this walk you must walk down the hill from the main entrance towards the first wind turbine and turn left where you will see this route clearly signposted.  The daily mile is a relatively easy walk with a good combination of both hilly and flat terrain and although it is only a mile long your pups will definitely be able to tire themselves out by running around in the big open space. This scenic route is a winner for me as it is circular meaning you are not having to walk back the same way you came which can sometimes feel repetitive. Alternatively for those looking for a slightly longer walk a good route to take is the 7 mile circuit around Whitelee Windfarm's Lochgoin Reservoir which is a great option for us humans who are trying to get our daily step count up!

If you are looking to turn your visit into a nice day out then there is an area on the daily mile route that has picnic benches so you and your pup can enjoy a bite to eat on your stroll. If the weather is not on your side the day of your visit then there are some picnic benches that are under wooden shelters making for more of a private dining experience LOL.

I hope you will now consider visiting
Whitelee Windfarm with your furry friends and I can't wait to share
my next recommendation with you!

Thanks for reading,

Beth Kennedy
